Cervical & Lumbar Total Disc Replacement Now Available in New York & Connecticut.
Carmel, NY – 5/19/2026 – Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group is now offering cervical and lumbar Total Disc Replacement procedures performed by Dean C. Perfetti, MD, MPH, expanding access to advanced spine care throughout New York and Connecticut.
For patients living with chronic neck or back pain, exploring surgical treatment options can often feel overwhelming. Many patients are familiar with spinal fusion surgery, but fewer realize that motion-preserving alternatives may also be available depending on their condition.
Dr. Perfetti is now offering cervical and lumbar Total Disc Replacement procedures using the Centinel Spine prodisc® platform as part of a motion-preserving approach to spine care at Somers Orthopaedics.
Dr. Perfetti is one of the few spine surgeons in the Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut area performing both cervical and lumbar Total Disc Replacement procedures.
Total Disc Replacement, also called artificial disc replacement, removes a damaged spinal disc and replaces it with an artificial disc designed to help preserve more natural spinal motion. Unlike spinal fusion surgery, which permanently joins bones together, Total Disc Replacement is designed to maintain movement in the treated area of the spine when appropriate.
For some patients, chronic neck or back pain begins when a spinal disc no longer absorbs movement the way it should. Symptoms may continue even after physical therapy, medications, injections, or activity modification.
According to Dr. Perfetti, understanding the patient’s symptoms, imaging findings, spinal stability, and long-term goals is an important part of determining whether a motion-preserving approach may be appropriate.
“Motion matters. The spine wants motion,” Dr. Perfetti explains.
Every patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether Total Disc Replacement, spinal fusion, minimally invasive spine surgery, or another treatment approach may be considered based on the patient’s condition and overall spinal health.
The Centinel Spine prodisc® platform includes FDA-approved systems for cervical and lumbar disc replacement and has been studied in published spine research involving advanced cervical and lumbar disc replacement procedures. Centinel Spine currently offers FDA-approved systems for two-level use in both the cervical and lumbar spine.
Patients throughout the Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut region looking into alternatives to spinal fusion often had limited local access to advanced motion-preserving spine procedures. Somers Orthopaedics now offers these evaluations closer to home for patients interested in learning more about cervical and lumbar disc replacement.
